RUMOURS: Everton set to miss out on Strootman

The midfielder had been linked with a move to the Toffees during the January transfer window, but is likely to remain at Roma under a new contract

Everton target Kevin Strootman will turn down a move to the Premier League in order to stay with Roma, according to Calcio Mercato.

Ronald Koeman had been interested in bringing the midfielder to Goodison Park, with James McCarthy likely to leave the club during the January transfer window.

However, that move looks to have broken down with Strootman set to sign a new deal that will keep him at Stadio Olimpico until 2021.

The Netherlands international has made 13 starts in Serie A so far this season, and Luciano Spalletti wants to keep hold of the 26-year-old as Roma battle Juventus for the title.
