Borussia Dortmund’s Germany international midfielder is a man in demand, but he has not been offered to Europe’s top clubs
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl has not been offered to Europe’s leading clubs, his agent Michael Decker has told Goal.
It has been reported that the highly-rated Germany international is a top target for the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Heavyweight outfits in the Premier League and La Liga have noted Weigl’s obvious potential, with the 21-year-old having caught the eye in the Bundesliga.
Weigl pens new Dortmund deal
Dortmund, though, only tied him to a new long-term contract in late-December, with fresh terms due to keep him at the club until 2021.
They are understandably reluctant to part with a prized asset and will hope to see transfer talk calmed during the winter window.
Decker has sought to aid that cause, with Weigl’s representative adamant that his client is staying at Dortmund despite attracting interest from some of the continent’s biggest sides.
He told Goal: “The claim, we were offering him to other clubs, is simply wrong.
“We consciously decided to renew his contract at Borussia Dortmund until 2021 even though there was a known interest from top clubs. We consider this the best decision for all parties.
RUMOURS: Weigl offered to Real Madrid
“For a player with Julian Weigl’s quality there is no need to offer him to anybody.”
Weigl has made 22 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions this season, with his first senior goal netted in a Champions League group stage clash with Portuguese outfit Sporting in October 2016.
