The Chinese Super League outfit, who recruited Oscar for £60m earlier in the transfer window, are close to landing the centre-back on a free transfer
Shanghai SIPG are poised to strengthen their squad further with the signing of former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Monaco defender Ricardo Carvalho.

The Chinese Super League outfit, now managed by ex-Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas, landed Oscar for a reported £60m earlier in the transfer window.
And they are close to adding to their ranks with the capture of Carvalho, who has trained with the club, though a deal is still yet to be officially announced.
Xie Hui, an assistant coach at the club, recently issued an ambiguously-worded message on his Weibo account saying: “Ricardo Carvalho, it’s a honor to have you on our side.”
Carvalho has been a free agent since leaving Monaco at the end of the 2015-16 Ligue 1 campaign.
Oscar scores on Shanghai SIPG debut
The 38-year-old was part of the Portugal squad that was successful in Euro 2016 last summer – the latest honour in a trophy-laden career for the centre-back.
Carvalho won three Primeira Liga titles and one Champions League crown with Porto before switching to Chelsea, playing a key part in them claiming three Premier League titles and three FA Cups.
He left Stamford Bridge after six years to join Real and lifted the Liga title with Los Blancos during the 2011-12 season before joining Monaco in 2013.
Shanghai SIPG are one of Chinese football’s star attractions, having also signed Hulk from Zenit for a then-Asian record £46.1m before smashing that mark when securing Oscar.
