With a lacking of attacking firepower in their ranks, the Ligue 1 champions have secured the highly promising young Portugal international
Paris Saint-Germain are set to announce the transfer of Benfica attacker Goncalo Guedes imminently, Goal can reveal.
Coutinho to secure new Liverpool deal
The 20-year-old, who has played twice for Portugal, is currently in the French capital finalising a move to the Ligue 1 giants, who have beaten Manchester United to his signature.
Guedes will sign a four-year contract with the French champions upon completing a medical and will cost Unai Emery’s side €30 million (£25.8m).
He arrives at the club to provide a supplementary attacking option to Edinson Cavani, who is the only experienced, natural No.9 currently on PSG’s books. Guedes, who has been dubbed ‘the new Cristiano Ronaldo’, has primarily played as a secondary striker and is also capable of playing on the wing.
His record so far this season – his first as a regular at club level – has been impressive. He has four goals in 22 appearances in the Portuguese top flight and the Champions League combined, plus a further four assists.
Although he was an ever-present for Benfica, who are top of the Liga NOS, up until Christmas, his form saw transfer speculation rise and club coach Rui Vitoria left him out of the starting XI in two of his side’s three league matches since the resumption of hostilities.
PSG have already signed Julian Draxler from Wolfsburg this January as they seek to regain their Ligue 1 title and make progress in the Champions League in the second half of the season, though the Portuguese youngster will not be eligible for the latter of those two quests.
After a sluggish start to the season, PSG have been forced to make up ground domestically on both Nice and Monaco and have therefore taken to the transfer market to strengthen their squad, which was reduced in size over the summer.

Guedes’s arrival will be a major boost to them ahead of a vital match against league leaders Monaco at Parc des Princes on Sunday.
The youngster, meanwhile, will be the second major departure from Benfica in the space of months, as they sold Renato Sanches to Bayern Munich last summer.
