Real Salt Lake signs forward Chad Barrett

The veteran journeyman joins his seventh MLS club.

Real Salt Lake announced Monday the signing of forward Chad Barrett, who joins the Utah side as a free agent.

“Chad is a hard-working competitor with a nose for the goal,” RSL general manager Craig Waibel said said in a team statement.  “He’s proven throughout his career that he can be an impact player either as a starter or off the bench and we’re happy to add him to the locker room.”

Barrett, 31, has spent time with six other MLS clubs since becoming a professional in 2005. He has spent his entire career in the North American league, aside from a brief loan stint at Norwegian side Valerenga in 2012.

With 58 goals and 31 assists in 275 career MLS matches, Barrett is 35th on the league’s all-time scoring list. He stands seventh among active MLS scorers.
