Cabaye ‘flattered’ by Marseille interest but pledges to battle for Palace

The France international insists he will do all he can to keep the Eagles in the Premier League despite being linked with a move to Ligue 1

Yohan Cabaye has admitted that he could be tempted to join Marseille in the summer.

The France international is currently on the books of Crystal Palace, who are fighting against Premier League relegation, but he has hinted that in the summer he could be persuaded into departing England for France.

“It’s flattering, because OM are one of the great French clubs,” he told L’Equipe Enquete.

Palace suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss to fellow relegation strugglers Sunderland last weekend, and relegation to the Championship would surely only increase the odds of the former Lille and Newcastle star returning to his home nation.

“We’re in a difficult situation,” he admitted. “I’m trying my best to help my team as best I can. I have immense respect for the coach, but today that’s the reality with my club.”

Cabaye has played 21 times in the English top flight this season, scoring two goals.

Marseille, meanwhile, are in the midst of building a fresh project, with the foundation set to be built around a number of experienced French stars, with Dimitri Payet signed from West Ham and Patrice Evra added from Juventus in the January transfer window.
