Bafana Bafana striker Lars Veldwijk is expected to complete his move to Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia in the next few days.
Reports emerged in February this year that Veldwijk had refused to come on as a substitute in a match against ADO Den Haag.
However, the player later denied the reports, claiming that he was not asked to come on and that he was still committed and prepared to play for the club.
Dutch media reports that the lanky marksman was on Friday allowed to leave FC Groningen on a free transfer.
According to RTV Noord, this was made public by team manager Ron Jans during Friday’s presentation of new coach Danny Buijs and his assistant Hennie Spijkerman.
Now, reports suggest that Veldwijk will soon travel to Bulgaria for a medical with Sofia, who campaign in the Premier Division.
Veldwijk is seen as a possible replacement for Brazilian goalscorer Fernando Karanga, who could soon be lost to CSKA Sofia.
Karanga is reportedly on the radar of French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille.
