Iker Muniain has signed a new contract, committing his future to Athletic Bilbao through to 2024.
The 25-year-old missed much of last season due to injury but has featured in 11 La Liga games this term, although Athletic are hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone.
Muniain has shown fine form, though, contributing four goals, including finding the net in Athletic’s 1-1 home draw against Real Madrid in September.
With his contract running down, the winger reportedly attracted attention from some major clubs looking to sign him on a free transfer in the summer, including Liverpool, Napoli and Milan.
But Muniain has now committed his future to a club for whom he debuted as a teenager back in 2009.
Muniain, who has spent his whole career at Athletic, won his sole Spain cap in 2012, and is set to make his 360th appearance for Athletic this Sunday against Getafe.
Overall in his Athletic career, Muniain has scored 51 goals and added 36 assists.
Athletic also confirmed Muniain’s new deal does not include any release clause.
