Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena has insisted that the club’s doors are “always open” for Neymar to return.
The Brazilian left Catalonia for Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 for a world-record fee of €222 million (£197m/$253m) to escape the shadow of Lionel Messi but has regularly been linked with a return to Spain.
Neymar formed part of the fearsome ‘MSN’ attacking trident alongside Messi and Luis Suarez that scored 364 goals in 450 games.
And young Blaugrana midfielder Alena insists he would be welcomed back if ever he wanted to leave PSG and come back to Camp Nou, with Goal revealing that Barca are waiting on Neymar to make the next move.
“He is one of the best players in the world, this club would always have their doors open to that type of player,” Alena told Esports Cope.
“Of course we would want him to return to the club, he would improve our team, our results and the players.”
Alena also addressed the speculation surrounding out-of-favour winger Ousmane Dembele, whose attitude has been in question in recent weeks amidst speculation linking him with Arsenal and Liverpool.
He added: “Ousmane Dembele? He is a full member of the squad, the mistakes have been reported and they have been internally sorted out, but we need to help him as with every player.
“When you come into this club from abroad it is not always easy to adapt, but this is a dressing room who will help him nurture and develop his talent.”
Barcelona – at the top of La Liga – face Atletico Madrid on Saturday, who trail by just one point in a crunch match that could have a significant impact on the title race.
The Blaugrana go into the fixture off the back of a shock 4-3 home defeat against Real Betis in which they trailed by two goals for the majority of the game and saw midfielder Ivan Rakitic sent off with nine minutes of normal time remaining.
Alena said: “Atletico Madrid? It is a very challenging and important game for us, we need to bounce back from (the defeat against) Real Betis.”
