?Real Betis manager Rubi has admitted that the club are looking to sign Barcelona midfielder Carles Aleñá during the January transfer window.
Aleñá has been starved of game time under Ernesto Valverde this season, as well as a handful of other academy graduates, and it’s understood that the 21-year-old is pushing for a move elsewhere to start getting regular minutes.
Following rumours that Aleñá had already agreed on a deal to join Real Betis in January, head coach Rubi admitted that the Spain Under-21 international is on the club’s list of players to bring to the Benito Villamarín next month.
“My priority is the three games that we have left [this year], for me it is very important to finish the [first] round strongly and try to gain many points,” Rubi said, quoted by Marca.
“And it is true that the club will be active [in January], either with Aleñá or with other players.
“Anyone who we believe can help us improve our current side, which is not easy because we already have a very good squad, will be welcome.”
Aleñá has played just 63 minutes of league football this season, while he also started in Barcelona’s heavily rotated side that beat Inter in the final group stage match of the Champions League.
The likes of Carles Pérez and Riqui Puig are also among Barcelona’s most talented youth players who haven’t had much of a looking under Valverde this season, with the latter also being linked with a move away from Barcelona.
Although the club does retain options to extend their youth players’ contracts for either two or three years, Puig isn’t one of those players and he will be available to walk away from Catalonia on a free transfer in 2021.
Puig has already confirmed that he won’t consider leaving Barcelona during the January transfer window.
