?Leicester midfielder Adrien Silva could be close to returning to Sporting CP, who want to bring him back to Portugal.

The Lions are eager to bring the 31-year-old back to Lisbon, after he left the club in 2018. Silva has barely played since his arrival at Leicester, but he could finally be looking at a return to his former club.

As reported by Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Sporting have a ‘golden chance’ to re-sign Silva now that his current contract is running out. His contract at ?Leicester expires in June 2021, though the Foxes are open to negotiating and could let him go before then.

They also report that there is a good relationship between Sporting and Leicester, and Silva is keen on a return to Portugal. He spent five years there as a youth player, before playing for the first team for 11 years and eventually captaining them.

Silva is currently on loan at Monaco, who he joined back on deadline day in the 2019 January transfer window. The Portuguese has made 40 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, who sit in ninth nine points off the European spots.

The 31-year-old joined Leicester in August 2017, leaving for the East Midlands on deadline day for £22m. However, his gametime with the Foxes has been limited to 21 appearances, with no goals and three assists for the club.

Silva’s future at Leicester has been uncertain for a long time, and he has been reportedly on the verge of leaving for over a year and-a-half. A Bola previously reported that his return to Sporting could be announced ‘anytime’, now stating that he still has an ‘excellent’ relationship with the club.

He made his career at the Portuguese club, winning five trophies in 239 appearances for the Lions. Now, Silva may be ready to return to the club he joined as a 13-year-old, spending 16 inside the Sporting setup.

Silva is likely motivated for a move in order to play first team football again, which would help him return to the Portugal national team. He was part of the European Championship-winning squad of 2016, though hasn’t played for A Selecao since the 2018 World Cup.
