The French government are set to announce that conclusions to the Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 2019/20 campaigns will be scrapped due to the current coronavirus pandemic.
The coronavirus has forced governments from around the world to act, with many European countries in a state of lockdown. In France, no football has taken place since 16 March, while there has been uncertainty over when and how the season would be able to conclude.

However, RMC Sport has reported that the 2019/20 season has already come to an end. It is further noted that the government is expected to announce very shortly the end of the Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 seasons in a speech to the National Assembly. Furthermore, there will be no football until August at the earliest, and this will be the start of the 2020/21 season.
The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) was hoping to restart the campaign by the middle of June, but now that the decision to cancel the season has been made, they will meet in May to decide on the rankings for the season, while deciding on how to deal with the issues of promotion, relegation and European qualification.

This will undoubtedly have a major impact on the world of football, with other leagues still weighing up the possibility of a return. Before play was halted, Paris Saint-Germain were 12 points clear of Marseille at the top of the table, having played one game fewer.
As for relegation, a number of clubs were – and are – at risk of going down. Toulouse sit at the bottom of the pile on 13 points, while Amiens are on 23 and 18th-placed Nimes are four points clear of them. Saint-Etienne and Dijon, however, are both just three points clear of the drop. As a result, this matter will certainly need to be resolved.
