Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he still doesn’t know if loanee striker Odion Ighalo will stay at the club beyond this month.

The Nigeria international is set to return to Shanghai Greenland Shenhua next week ahead of the return of the Chinese Super League, but United hoped they’d be able to keep Ighalo until the end of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

The clock is ticking on Ighalo’s loan deal, and although the club want to keep hold of the striker until the end of the season, United boss Solskjaer said nothing has been agreed with the Nigeria international’s parent club.

“The loan deal went until the end of May now, so obviously he’s supposed to be going back,” Solskjaer told MUTV Group Chat. “We’re in dialogue. They’ve been great towards us, his club, and allowed him to play for his dream club.

“It’s been a dream for him and hopefully he can finish off what he started, hopefully with a trophy for us. At the moment, nothing has been agreed. Their league is going to get started soon so we’re just waiting to see.”

Ighalo’s made eight appearances for Manchester United since joining his boyhood club, scoring four goals and picking up one assist.

The Nigerian has been influential as United have progressed into the latter stages of the Europa League and FA Cup, but Ighalo still hasn’t started in the Premier League since his January loan move.

Manchester United have been in talks to extend Ighalo’s loan deal from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua ever since the Premier League was suspended as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Talks with the Chinese club appeared to stall earlier this month and it’s unknown if United will be able to reach an agreement before Ighalo’s loan deal expires.
