Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been in regular contact with Jadon Sancho over the phone to express his side’s willingness to complete a deal for the Borussia Dortmund player this window.
Having dragged on for far too long already, a deal to bring Sancho to Old Trafford continues to be nowhere near completion, despite talks and interest stretching back to the dawn of time.
Manchester United have made the Englishman their top target this window, but the sticking point appears to be the fee Dortmund are demanding, one the Red Devils are as of yet reluctant to meet.
The Bundesliga side have made it clear they will not sell the forward for any less than £108m – a valuation United are trying to haggle down via a series of add-ons and instalments. Despite the two clubs failing to, so far, strike a deal, Norwegian outlet Dagbladet have revealed that Solskjaer has been in regular contact with Sancho to confirm his interest.
It’s added that the feeling is mutual, with Sancho expressing his desire to return to the city he played in prior to leaving for Germany, with United’s fierce rivals Manchester City.
Making it clear to the Old Trafford hierarchy that the 20-year-old is his number one target this summer, Solskjaer is intent on pushing through with a transfer. For that to happen, however, the Premier League side will need to ease their stance on what they believe to be a figure too high for the current coronavirus-affected market.
A whole host of other names have been linked as replacements should the Sancho deal fail to materialise, including Juventus’ Douglas Costa and Bournemouth’s David Brooks
Given De Borussen boss Lucien Favre’s comments, those replacements may be their best options: “We need him, no question about it. Everyone was happy that he stayed.”
