Chelsea left back Marcos Alonso may have hit the point of no return at Stamford Bridge after he was the subject of a furious rant from manager Frank Lampard in the aftermath of the 3-3 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

Alonso started the game but made two mistakes that gifted the Baggies their first and third goals, so it came as no surprise to see the Spaniard hauled off at half-time to be replaced by César Azpilicueta.

According to The Athletic, Alonso then tried to watch the second half of the game from the team bus, rather than sit in the stands with the rest of his team-mates, and when Lampard found out he had gone to the bus without permission, he pulled out the hairdryer treatment.

Lampard was outraged at Alonso’s lack of team spirit on an evening in which Chelsea showed real togetherness and resilience to fight back from three goals down, accusing the left-back of only being bothered about himself. The boss is described as being “the angriest they’ve ever seen him”.

A source close to the situation even added that they would be surprised to see Alonso play for Chelsea again.

Alonso’s role as a starter was always expected to be taken away anyway following Ben Chilwell’s £50m move from Leicester, but the Spaniard was expected to be backup as Emerson Palmieri was nearing the exit door.

However, Alonso’s future now appears to be in serious doubt, and Lampard could look to force him out the exit door and keep Emerson around instead. A season-long loan is seen as the most-likely option if Alonso does leave.

Alonso, who has two years remaining on his contract, has attracted interest from both Juventus and Inter this summer, but Chelsea were always reluctant to listen to offers as they felt he still had a place at the club.

If he does hit the market, Chelsea will hope to see those two sides reignite their interest as Frank Lampard is keen to reduce the size of his squad before the transfer window shuts.
