SSC Napoli have announced that the players will wear an Argentina-inspired fourth kit against AS Roma on Sunday evening, in honour of club legend Diego Maradona.
Arguably the greatest footballer in history, Maradona led I Partenopei to their only two league titles in their long history, winning the 1987 and 1990 scudetti, and the 1989 UEFA Cup. He is seen as a God in the city of Naples, and his passing earlier this week brought great grief upon its people.

And the club announced that in his memory, they have joined forces with Kappa to create a ‘4th combat kit’, created to echo the love for Maradona and his country Argentina, which will be worn against AS Roma on Sunday evening.
“A year ago, together with Kappa, we thought of designing a special jersey that echoes Diego Maradona, his beloved Argentina and the close-knit bond with the people of Naples,” the statement read.
“Our hope was that Diego would be able to see it, perhaps even wear it and share in our excitement about it.
“It was agreed that the new kit would be unveiled on matchday nine of the Serie A campaign, during the match between SSC Napoli and Roma.

“The Kombat jersey that the players will don tonight will have an even greater significance than initially intended.”
The blue and white striped jersey will strike a balance between the famous colours of Napoli and Argentina, as they come together to mourn and celebrate the life of Maradona.
It will be a difficult evening in Naples, as the entire city will pause to remember their fallen hero, before taking on Roma in a crucial clash in their hopes to cement their place in the top four. Gennaro Gattuso’s men will be hoping to bounce back from their 3-1 defeat to Milan last weekend, by claiming three points in an emotionally-charged 90 minutes.
Roma will travel to the newly-named Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, hoping to lift themselves into second place in the table with a victory.
