Bayern Munich turn to Eder Militao as possible David Alaba replacement

Bayern Munich have turned their attention to Real Madrid’s out-of-favour Brazilian central defender Eder Militao as a potential replacement for David Alaba, who is edging closer to a move the other way.

The Austrian looks set to exit the Allianz Arena at the expiry of his contract, and a move to the Spanish capital is looking most likely.

Bundesliga giants Bayern are thought to have identified Militao as a potential solution to Alaba’s departure, considering the Brazilian’s lack of playing time this season; he has featured in just two La Liga games for Real Madrid all campaign.

Despite the move seeming to suit all parties, Goal report that a winter transfer, or possibly a loan with an option to buy, remains unlikely, when taking into account the financial situation both clubs find themselves in.

This factor is not helped by the fact that Los Blancos could look to make back the majority of the €50m they paid Porto for the 22-year-old back in 2019.

The Brazilian himself is thought to be keen on staying at Real Madrid for the long-term, with the ambition of becoming a club legend, following in the footsteps of his compatriot Marcelo. However, Militao is aware that he needs minutes to be able to do that, and therefore is willing to keep his options open in the short-term – making a deal, from his end, still possible.

A potential transfer is important for his international future as well. Brazil coach Tite is a fan of Militao and historically has called him into his squads. He was, however, exiled from the party that gathered for November’s internationals against Venezuela and Uruguay.

Militao will have his eyes on a place in the final squad for the upcoming Copa America, something that could give Bayern an advantage if they decide to push ahead and pursue a deal. Juventus, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund are three other teams interested, and there have been tenuous links to Liverpool too.
