Joe Hart set to seal £1m Celtic transfer

Tottenham goalkeeper Joe Hart is set to travel to Glasgow on Tuesday to seal a £1m transfer to Celtic.

The 34-year-old spent last season as backup to Hugo Lloris but has seen himself pushed further down the standings following the arrival of Pierluigi Gollini on loan from Atalanta.

Hart does not want to be a third-choice goalkeeper and has requested a move to a team who can offer him a genuine shot of first-team football, and as noted by the Daily Mail, it’s Celtic who have won him over.

Talks between Celtic and Spurs intensified over the weekend and an agreement over a £1m transfer fee has since been reached, with Hart expected in Scotland on Tuesday to finalise things.

Hart is expected to become Celtic’s starting goalkeeper, with new manager Ange Postecoglou looking to replace both Scott Bain and Vasilis Barkas after the pair’s underwhelming showings last season.

It’s not a lot of money for Spurs, but it’s an extra £1m which can be added to the transfer kitty as director of football Fabio Paratici looks to rebuild his squad.

The money is expected to go towards a £47m move for Atalanta centre-back Cristian Romero, who is close to sealing a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and is simply waiting for his current side to finalise their loan move for Juventus’ Merih Demiral.

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo is also chasing a reunion with Wolves’ winger Adama Traore, who has been tipped to cost between £30m and £45m, but the boss’ biggest priority will be resolving the future of striker Harry Kane.

Kane failed to report for pre-season training on Monday and is expected to be hit with a fine for his behaviour, which stems from his desire to seal a move away from the club this summer.

The striker believes he has a gentleman’s agreement with chairman Daniel Levy that he will be sold this summer, with Manchester City leading the race for his signature, but Levy is yet to show any willingness to offload his talisman.
