Bayern Munich vs Red Bull Salzburg: TV channel, live stream, team news & prediction

Bayern Munich welcome Red Bull Salzburg to the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night for the second leg of their finely poised Champions League last 16 tie.

The Austrian champions came narrowly close to sealing a famous win in the first leg, with Chukwubuike Adamu’s first-half strike cancelled out by Kingsley Coman’s equaliser in stoppage time.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side are unbeaten in the three matches since that game across the border, though they’ll need to put in a much better display than they did in their draw against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday if they’re to advance to the quarter-finals.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of this one.

When is kick off? Tuesday 8 March, 20:00 (GMT)
Where is it being played? Allianz Arena, Munich
What TV channel is it on? BT Sport 3 (UK), Paramount+ (US)
Highlights? BT Sport YouTube channel
Who’s the referee? Clement Turpin (FRA)
Who’s the VAR? Jerome Brisard (FRA)

Despite returning to training last week, Manuel Neuer is not expected to make his comeback between the sticks just yet.

Alphonso Davies remains a long-term absentee with a heart problem, while Corentin Tolisso and Leon Goretzka are closing in on recoveries following respective hamstring and knee injuries.

Bouna Sarr should be fit to play having overcome a knock.

Salzburg’s injury list is a rather extensive one that would make quarter-final qualification all the more impressive.

Star forwards Benjamin Sesko, Noah Okafor and Sekou Koita are expected to miss the trip to Munich, as are highly-rated defenders Bryan Okoh and Oumar Solet.

Jerome Onguene should be fit to play again after a recent bout of illness.

Having never met under the guises of SV Austria Salzburg or Casino Salzburg, the Red Bull carnation of the club are gearing up for their fourth meeting with Bayern in the last two years.

These two were drawn together in the group stage of last year’s Champions League, with Bayern running out winners 3-1 at home and 6-2 away.

As mentioned, the Austrian giants came so close to maintaining their 100% record at home in this year’s competition, but Coman struck for Bayern in the dying embers.

After years of trying to reach the Champions League and then failing to make a lasting impression in it, Salzburg have made a good account of themselves this season.

However, this is where their run should come to an end – Bayern are superior in every department and it would be one of the European Cup’s biggest shocks if they were eliminated on home turf to opponents from across the south-east border.

Expect an entertaining and fascinating tie with plenty of goalmouth action.

Prediction: Bayern 4-2 Salzburg
