Monza ask for game against Bologna to be postponed

AC Monza have requested to postpone their game against Bologna this weekend following the news that on-loan defender Pablo Mari was stabbed on Thursday.

News surfaced on Thursday evening that Monza’s Mari was the victim of a stabbing in a Milan shopping centre, along with five other people. A 46-year-old man was arrested after the incident.

Monza released a statement this morning confirming that Mari – on loan from Arsenal – had undergone ‘successful surgery’ and will now undergo a period of rest of at least two months before resuming physical activities.

Per Football Italia, club CEO Adriano Galliani has requested to Lega Calcio that Monday’s Serie A fixture against Bologna is postponed.

Calciomercato.com report that Galliani admitted Monza’s players ‘are in shock’ following the stabbing.

One of the five victims of the attack, a 30-year-old, has died.
