Harry Kane’s record for England at international tournaments

Harry Kane is England’s all-time leading goalscorer, having wracked up the goals for his country since debuting at international level in 2015.

The Tottenham striker took his tally his 54 strikes for the Three Lions with a penalty against Italy, setting another major record having beaten Jimmy Greaves’ Spurs tally earlier this season.

Here’s how the England captain has fared at previous international tournaments and how his goals have come about over the years.

Not many got out of England’s Euro 2016 campaign alive. To his credit, Kane managed to get himself off corner duty immediately after taking four in the 2-1 defeat to Iceland in the last 16.

In what was his first taste of senior international tournament football, Kane had 13 shots but couldn’t hit the back of the net as the Three Lions limped out.

England headed into the 2018 World Cup with little fanfare and lack of pressure, with not much expected of Gareth Southgate’s side.

Instead, Kane scored five goals in the group stage and another against Colombia in the last 16 as England reached the semi finals, where they were beaten by Croatia. They eventually finished fourth, losing the third place play-off to Belgium.

There was a mighty whirlwind around Kane heading into Euro 2020. He had shown an interest in leaving Tottenham and speculation surrounded his performances throughout the tournament.

After a slow start, Kane got his first goal of the tournament in the last 16 against Germany before a brace in the 4-0 win over Ukraine and a rebound of a saved penalty against Denmark. He couldn’t overly impact proceedings as England were beaten on penalties in the final at Wembley.

The build-up to the 2022 World Cup saw England thrown into the favourites conversation alongside Brazil, eventual champions Argentina and finalists France.

Kane’s goalscoring wasn’t needed in the group stage as England eased through in first place before putting his side 2-0 up against Senegal in the last 16. That set up a quarter final with France, where Kane would score one penalty and blaze another over in a 2-1 defeat.
