Ivan Toney scored Brentford’s equaliser in their last meeting with Arsenal in February but remains banned until the new year.

Rico Henry and Kevin Schade have been struck down by injuries and won’t feature, with Shandon Baptiste, Ben Mee, Mikkel Damsgaard and Josh Dasilva also unavailable.

There could be a first start for Neal Maupay, who has previously wound up Arsenal’s squad and fans alike, since re-signing on loan from Brighton. Rotation is otherwise expected throughout the rest of Brentford’s starting XI.

Brentford predicted lineup vs Arsenal (4-3-3): Strakosha; Roerslev, Jorgensen, Ajer, Hickey; Onyeka, Janelt, Ghoddos; Lewis-Potter, Maupay, Wissa.

Arsenal do not expect Declan Rice’s absence to be a long one after being subbed in the Tottenham draw, though the England international may not have started this game if fully fit anyway.

Mohamed Elneny is available again and may be handed a start in midfield with Kai Havertz and Jorginho, the latter of whom had a dreadful appearance from the bench on Sunday.

Aaron Ramsdale will start in goal with loanee David Raya ineligible to play against his old team, but Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, Jurrien TImber and Thomas Partey are all out with knocks of varying significance.

Arsenal predicted lineup vs Brentford (4-3-3): Ramsdale; Cedric, Saliba, Kiwior, Tomiyasu; Havertz, Elneny, Jorginho; Nelson, Nketiah, Smith Rowe.

Heavy rotation is expected from managers Thomas Frank and Mikel Arteta and that might make Wednesday’s game a little less fluid.

The Bees need a result to kick-start their campaign but haven’t beaten the Gunners since their glorious first evening in the Premier League when they won 2-0 back in August 2021.

However, Arsenal’s greater strength in depth should see them over the line, despite injuries starting to mount up.

Prediction: Brentford 1-2 Arsenal
