Champions League defender confirms interest in Man Utd transfer

Borussia Dortmund full-back Ramy Bensebaini has admitted he would be interested in joining Manchester United before his career comes to a close.

28-year-old Bensebaini, a natural left-back who is comfortable centrally, joined Dortmund on a free transfer during the summer after four impressive years with Borussia Monchengladbach, for whom he scored 25 goals and racked up a further eight assists in just 113 games.

Despite just moving to Dortmund, Bensebaini has confessed he is always looking to take his career to the next level and admitted a move to United is on his agenda.

“It’s always been my goal to progress and go as far as possible, that’s why I always try to choose clubs that are bigger than the ones I was at,” he told La Gazette du Fennec. “As long as my body and my legs can run, my goal is to progress.

“As for Manchester United, we’ll see. I’m slowly getting older, I’m [nearly] 30 years old now, but we’ll see. God willing!”

Left-back is not an immediate priority for United and manager Erik ten Hag, although injuries have made the boss’ life difficult when it comes to the position.

Luke Shaw has battled injuries, while understudy Tyrell Malacia is yet to play this season after undergoing surgery. Sergio Reguilon was signed on loan during the summer as emergency cover and has shared responsibilities with Diogo Dalot.

Both Shaw and Malacia are expected to return in the coming weeks, however, at which point Ten Hag will hope he no longer needs to worry about the left-back spot.

Elsewhere in defence, United face a conundrum over the futures of centre-back duo Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof as well as right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, all of whom are out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

United do have options to extend all three deals by 12 months but have not yet made a decision on any of the trio.
