Mohamed Salah reveals stance on Liverpool future after Jurgen Klopp exit

Mohamed Salah has insisted Jurgen Klopp’s departure from Liverpool will not impact his future at the club.

Klopp will step down from his position as manager at the end of the season – a move which many have speculated could bring about wholesale changes at Anfield as the club prepare to enter into a new era.

Those in the final 18 months of their contracts, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Salah, have been tipped to follow the boss out the exit door, but the Egyptian insists he will not allow Klopp’s departure to influence his own decision.

“No, no – it’s life, it’s part of life now that everything moves,” Salah told Sky Sports.

“Players left the club already. Very important players left the club. The manager is also very important for the club and he is leaving the club. One day I will leave the club, but no [Klopp’s exit will not have an impact].”

90min understands Salah is a top transfer target for the Saudi Pro League this summer alongside Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

Salah went on to reveal how he first heard about Klopp’s decision to step down this summer, admitting he first believed the German was set to ink a new contract at Liverpool.

“It was weird,” he laughed. “Usually we don’t do meetings at 10:30. 10:30 is report time, 12 is training. So when they said there was a meeting at 10:30, I was like, ‘What?’.

“[Klopp’s] agent was here and I was like, ‘Oh, he’s renewing his contract’. Then five minutes before the meeting, Virg [van Dijk] said, ‘Do you know what the meeting is about?’. I said no. He said, ‘The manager is leaving’. I was like [laughs]. He said, ‘Really, the manager is leaving’. I said, ‘Really, why?’. He said, ‘No idea’.

“Then the manager came in and the players… everyone was asking, and he just said it. It was weird because no-one knew before, nothing in the media, he didn’t even prepare us for that, he just said it one time.

“That was a weird day for us, but it’s football.”
