Fulham vs Newcastle: Preview, predictions and lineups

Newcastle travel to Fulham on Saturday aiming to beat the Cottagers for the third time this season.

Raul Jimenez’s early red card killed the reverse fixture on Tyneside as Newcastle sauntered to a 3-0 win before the Magpies knocked Fulham out of the FA Cup in January.

Victories at Craven Cottage have been hard to come by for opponents this term, with Fulham’s tough week on the road further underlining just how reliant they’ve been on their home form. Marco Silva’s side were beaten 3-1 by Nottingham Forest on Wednesday after Rodrigo Muniz’s stunning acrobatics rescued a point at Bramall Lane last weekend.

After staging a dramatic comeback to beat West Ham, Paul Dummett handed Everton a point on a plate after he pulled down Ashley Young to gift Everton a late penalty. Eddie Howe’s injury-plagued squad have their work cut out if they’re to qualify for Europe next season and points on the road have been illusive.

Here’s 90min’s preview of Saturday’s Premier League clash.

Fulham are one of few sides with a clean bill of health, but Silva will almost certainly make several changes to the starting XI for Newcastle’s visit.

Tom Cairney, Bobby De Cordova Reid and Willian are three who should come back into the side.

On the contrary, Newcastle are battered and bruised. However, Howe will welcome back Anthony Gordon after he missed the Everton draw through suspension.

Despite his heroics against West Ham, Harvey Barnes is likely to drop out of the side.

Valentino Livramento, Miguel Almiron and Jamaal Lascelles are new additions to the injury list. The trio join Callum Wilson, Lewis Miley, Joelinton, Kieran Trippier, Nick Pope and Sven Botman on the sidelines.

Newcastle predicted lineup vs Fulham (4-3-3): Dubravka; Krafth, Schar, Burn, Hall; Guimaraes, Longstaff, Willock; Murphy, Isak, Gordon.

The signs are pointing towards a Fulham win this weekend despite their midweek woes. They’re a team transformed at home, with Newcastle struggling on their travels this term.

The Magpies did, however, beat Fulham in west London at the start of the year in the FA Cup and have certainly had the Cottagers’ number in recent years. Howe’s side are running off fumes and this has the makings of a goal-fest.

Newcastle might just about have enough with Gordon and the red-hot Alexander Isak to earn a point.

Prediction: Fulham 2-2 Newcastle
