Man City loanee admits he’s open to Real Madrid move

Brazilian right-back Yan Couto has revealed that he is open to join Real Madrid, despite being contracted to Manchester City until 2025.

21-year-old Couto signed a five-year contract with the Citizens in 2020, aged just 17. At the time of his signing he had already won 13 caps for his country at Under-17 level and was set for an exciting senior career.

Shortly after putting pen to paper, Couto was sent on loan to Girona for the season. He was later loaned to SC Braga for a further season, before being sent back out the City Group-owned Girona.

Couto has been one of the standout performers in La Liga during his second spell on loan at Girona, bagging an impressive nine goal contributions in 28 games. Sitting seven points clear of fourth-placed Atletico Madrid, Girona have a strong chance of qualifying for the Champions League for the very first time thanks to Couto and co.’s wonderful form.

Said form has caught the eye of a number of top clubs around Europe, with reports linking the full-back with a potential future move to Real Madrid.

Speaking to Catalunya Radio, Couto admitted that he would be keen to join the La Liga giants if the opportunity presented itself: “Yes yes. If they are interested it is an option, I will not lie to you. But, I am a City player, I have a contract there and I dream of playing for City.”

It is still undecided where Couto will continue his career, but Madrid may consider a fresh move to support ageing right-backs Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez.

However, Couto’s future will heavily depend on City, who may see him as a strong option for the Blues’ squad going forward.
