Trent Alexander-Arnold reaches huge Liverpool milestone in Fulham victory

Trent Alexander-Arnold reached 100 goal involvements for Liverpool when he opened the scoring in the Reds’ 3-1 victory over Fulham on Sunday.

Needing a big performance to build momentum for the Premier League title race, Alexander-Arnold opened the scoring for Liverpool – his 19th goal across all competitions since he made his debut in October 2016.

With a whopping 81 assists to his name as well, Alexander-Arnold has now been responsible for 100 Liverpool goals in his 305 appearances for the team.

Alexander-Arnold has endured a difficult season this year as a result of injuries, the last of which was a nasty knee issue that kept him out for two months between February and April.

This was just his third game back from the knee problem and manager Jurgen Klopp admitted Liverpool had missed Alexander-Arnold’s unique contribution.

“It was a great goal from Trent and we needed it,” he reflected. “Nobody is like Trent in the way he plays the game so and for a long time today Trent was exceptional, so it’s super-helpful to have him back.

“It was a complete performance in the second half. For us, Fulham is always a tough place to come. I can’t really explain it but from my point of view that was the best performance we have had at Fulham away.”

Alexander-Arnold and teammate Andy Robertson are currently locked in a battle for the record for most assists from a defender in Premier League history.

The pair have both past long-standing record holder Leighton Baines (53). Currently, it is Robertson who holds the record with 59, but Alexander-Arnold has 58 to his name and the pair have already taken turns at the top of the rankings.

Everton’s Ashley Young does have 71 assists to his name, but most of those came from his days as a winger with Aston Villa and Manchester United, and so he is usually omitted from search for the Premier League’s most creative defender.
