If you’ve been keeping your ear to the ground this past week, you’ll know the summer transfer window has started to really heat up.
Tottenham Hotspur have brought in Dominic Solanke for a club-record fee, West Ham beat Juventus to the signing of Jean-Clair Todibo and Atletico Madrid forked out a stunning €95m to Manchester City for Julian Alvarez.
And while all those deals have been going through, there’s been plenty of rumours doing the rounds, too.
Here’s the pick of the bunch.
The rumour
Leader-Sport have reported Liverpool are keen to sign talented goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili for €80m, before sending him out on loan to Bournemouth for the 2024/25 season.
Our take
So…where do you even start with this one?
How about the fact that, despite not signing anyone so far this summer, Liverpool are set to fork out on a goalkeeper, AKA literally the last thing they need?
Or the fact they’d be signing a player for the third biggest fee they’ve ever spent just to then send said player out on loan to Bournemouth?
There is no world in which this rumour makes sense.
The rumour
According to El Nacional, Cristiano Ronaldo has asked Al Nassr to sign Antony from Manchester United this summer.
Our take
El Nacional really are the gift that keeps on giving during the 2024 summer transfer window.
This week they’ve conjured up another doozy, this time with Ronaldo acting as Al Nassr’s sporting director to try and sign the United outcast.
The rumour
The Sun have reported Juventus are interested in signing Liverpool’s back-up goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
Our take
Considering Juve signed Michele Di Gregorio as their new first choice goalkeeper about a month ago, this rumour screams ‘we didn’t bother looking at the Juventus squad or any of their recent business’.
Moving on.
The rumour
Our friends over at El Nacional have insisted Barcelona are bracing for Chelsea to make an approach for Fermin Lopez.
Our take
El Nacional are back with a pretty safe transfer story this time.
While Fermin leaving Barcelona doesn’t make the most sense in the world for the player or the club, Chelsea making their one billionth signing of 2024 certainly does.
We wouldn’t be completely shocked if this deal came to fruition because, well, Chelsea.
The rumour
Football Insider believe Liverpool are braced for an approach from Saudi Arabia for star man Mohamed Salah, with the club viewing a bid of around £100m to be ‘hard to turn down’.
Our take
We’re wrapping up this week with a rumour that actually does make a bit of sense. Salah has been notably courted by Saudi Pro League teams over the last 12 months and looks set to end up in the Middle East at some stage.
For once, however, it would be nice to get an actual team name when Salah is being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
