Bruno Fernandes signs new three-year Man Utd contract

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has signed a new three-year contract with the club until the summer of 2027. The deal also comes with the option of a further 12 months.

It ends any lingering speculation about Fernandes’ future at Old Trafford, having been linked with a move away since the end of last season.

But the Portugal international, having joined in 2020 and already making 234 appearances for the club, will now stay at United well into his thirties.

“Everybody knows the passion I have for Manchester United. I understand the responsibility and significance of wearing this shirt, and the levels of dedication and desire required to represent this incredible club,” Fernandes told ManUtd.com.

“I have had so many special moments here already; hearing my name sung from the Stretford End, scoring a hat-trick against Leeds, leading the team out at Old Trafford on European nights and lifting trophies at Wembley. But I wouldn’t have signed this contract if I didn’t believe that my best moments in a United shirt are still to come.

“From my discussions with the football leadership and manager, it is clear how determined everyone is to fight for major trophies in the years ahead. I can see how positive the future is going to be and I am relishing leading this team forward.”

A new contract was expected following recent reports, which also claimed that Fernandes is now among the highest earners at United thanks to a pay rise.

Fernandes is a three-time Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year winner – only David de Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo (both four) have won it more – and has routinely contributed double figures in front of goal every season. He is also the Premier League’s leading chance creator since he arrived in England.

Last term’s FA Cup triumph at Wembley marked a major trophy in his first year as skipper.
