Liverpool are hoping to make it two wins from two in the Champions League this week when Bologna are the visitors to Anfield.
This will be a first home European night for manager Arne Slot, who has made the transition from the Jurgen Klopp era surprisingly seamless so far.
At least one injury concern will mean it won’t be the same Liverpool team that started the Premier League victory over Wolves on Saturday afternoon.
Here’s a look at the team Slot could choose.
GK: Alisson – Returned from injury over the weekend and will be disappointed not to have come away from that game with a clean sheet.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – There no longer appear to be qualms or debate about his best position, with the England international determined to be the best right-back in the world.
CB: Ibrahima Konate – Potentially faces competition for this place from Jarell Quansah given how little the youngster has played. But Slot would be equally justified keeping things the same.
CB: Virgil van Dijk – Carabao Cup aside, the Liverpool skipper has rightly played every minute of the season so far. His presence and leadership is so important.
LB: Kostas Tsimikas – Slot played down the seriousness of Andrew Robertson’s knock at Wolves, but the Scot is proving less indesctructible these days and a rest might be the smart option.
DM: Ryan Gravenberch – The Dutchman has admitted recently that the more technical build up favoured by Slot this season makes him “more comfortable” than in Jurgen Klopp’s tactics.
DM: Alexis Mac Allister – Liverpool will look for the World Cup-winning Argentine to control the game from midfield, finding the space and picking passes to break Bologna’s lines.
RM: Mohamed Salah – The Egyptian king drew level with Sergio Aguero’s tally of 231 Premier League goal involvements in his last outing, joint sixth on the all-time list.
AM: Dominik Szoboszlai – Hasn’t completed 90 minutes since matchday one at San Siro when he scored one of Liverpool’s three goals.
LM: Luis Diaz – Really back to his best so far this season. Not on the scoresheet against Wolves, but scored braces against Bournemouth and Manchester United. Hasn’t been overused either.
ST: Cody Gakpo – Diogo Jota’s absence for this one could accelerate Darwin Nunez’s return to the lineup after illness. Alternatively, Gakpo could get only his third start of the season.
