Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham has been called into the senior England squad for the first time ahead of this month’s internationals against Republic of Ireland, Belgium and Iceland.

The teenager’s call-up comes as Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse both withdraw from the squad due to injury.

Bellingham, who turned 17 in June and joined Dortmund in a £25m transfer soon afterwards, stands to be among England’s youngest ever players if he gets on the pitch in any of the three games.

Bellingham has been capped by England at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-21 level since 2019 and his rapid rise sees him join Dortmund teammate Jadon Sancho with the Three Lions.

The youngster enjoyed a breakout season with Birmingham in 2019/20, playing 44 times in all competitions for the Championship club. He was then heavily pursued by Manchester United and was even give a personal tour of the club’s training facilities before choosing a move to Germany.

So far, Bellingham has played 11 times for Dortmund in all competitions, starting six games, although he has only started one of the last four Bundesliga games.
