Manchester United travel to Everton in the WSL this weekend in a battle between two ambitious clubs looking to break up the established status quo this season.
United boast a perfect record in the league after four games, winning all four, scoring 11 and conceding none. They have an identical record to early leaders Arsenal but have only been pushed down into second place based on alphabetical order.
But the Marc Skinner’s Red Devils are coming into this one off the back of another setback in the Continental Cup in midweek, throwing away a lead against second tier Durham deep in stoppage time and then losing a second successive penalty shootout in the competition.
Everton, meanwhile, also drew over 90 minutes in midweek when they faced Aston Villa in the same Conti Cup group. The Toffees eventually prevailed on penalties to claim the bonus point.
In the WSL, Brian Sorensen’s Toffees have mixed fortunes. They started the campaign with a defeat to West Ham but have gone on to record three wins and have only lost to Chelsea since. That actually only puts them only three points behind the top three at this stage, although they have played a game more than both United and Arsenal.
