Corruption and fraud charges made against Neymar, his family and others have been dropped by prosecutors.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward was being pursued by prosecutors in Spain for incidents relating to his 2013 transfer to Barcelona.
Investment firm DIS brought about the claims having acquired 40% of Neymar’s rights as a teenager, with a move agreed between Barcelona and Santos in 2011 and completed two years later.
According to the BBC, after attempting to prosecute Neymar with a two-year jail sentence and €10m fine, charges have been dropped ‘against all the accused for all the allegations’.
Also embroiled in the trial were the 30-year-old’s parents, Barcelona and Santos, former Barcelona presidents Josep Bartomeu and Sandro Rossell, and Santos’ president at the time.
With DIS claiming they owned 40% of Neymar’s rights, their grievance was that their cut of the transfer was undervalued significantly and they didn’t receive what they were owned.
Barcelona claimed that they completed a deal for Neymar worth €57.1m. Of that, €40m went to his family, while DIS received 40% of the €17.1m that was paid to Santos.
The 121 times capped Brazil international spent four years with Barcelona before moving to PSG as the world’s most expensive player in 2017.
