French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris could spark a major bidding war among Premier League sides Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham after the Lyon’s president confirmed his availability this summer.
Premier League trio of Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham are said to be keen on the 25 year old after the player declared his desire to move to England this transfer window. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been a long term admirer of the Lyon custodian and would be tempted to sign him to provide ample competition for the place between the sticks.
New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is exploring the possibility of signing the Frenchman as Pepe Reina could be set for an exit with AC Milan said to be hot favorites to land the 29 year old. Tottenham are also in the search for a replacement for the ageing Brad Friedel and could compete with the others for highly rated Ligue 1 shot stopper.
Lyon President confirmed that the French captain would be allowed to leave this summer if interested clubs are prepared to meet their evaluation. Jean-Michel Aulas told TF1: “Lloris can go, but only for a decent price in relation to the market.”
According to sources England midfielder Jack Wilshere is likely to be fit for the start of the next season after he stepped up his training regime recently.
The 20 year old suffered a stress fracture in ankle during a pre-season friendly against the New York Red Bulls last summer and subsequently ruled out for close to five months. However, a recurrence of that problem back in January this year forced him out for the remainder of the season. The player underwent a surgery in May to correct a minor problem which evidently ruled him out English of the Euros.
Stuart Pearce was adamant about including the young star in the Great Britain’s squad for the Olympics but eventually relented when Arsene Wenger publicly expressed his displeasure at Pearce’s decision. The Gunner boss insisted that Wilshere needed to rest to completely recover from the injury that he had almost a year back.
Wilshere, who joined Arsenal as a 9 year old, has spent the entirety of last season on the sidelines and Wenger is desperate to have him back for the start of the season. The player is believed to have started training with the ball after having spent most of the time in the gym as part of the rehabilitation program. With almost a month and a half to go before the new season gets underway, we have reason to believe that Wilshere could be fit in time to play in the season opener.
The potential transfer of Yann M’Vila from Rennes to Arsenal is in serious doubt after the latest spat between the player and French coach Laurent Blanc following France’s exit from the Euros.
M’Vila’s move to Arsenal has been dragged over a month now and the player’s disciplinary issues have added a further twist to the transfer saga. Arsene Wenger is a firm admirer of the 21 year old and had held talks with Ligue 1 side about the player’s availability. The Gunner coach wants to strengthen his squad this summer and has already shored up his attacking department with strikers Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud. The Rennes star has been one of the top transfer targets for the Londoners but his off field indiscipline has forced Wenger to rethink his decision.
M’Vila was involved in a spat with French coach Laurent Blanc along with Hatem Ben Arfa, Jeremy Menez and former Gunner Samir Nasri. This incident however, isn’t a one off as the player has a history of being involved in such which has somewhat tarnished the young star’s image. He has been arrested thrice over the last couple of years for offenses ranging from road rage to manhandling a restaurant owner.
Wenger is convinced of the player’s ability but is unsure of the dressing room problems that he would bring along. The officials at the Emirates will reassess the whole situation and take a final call next week after the team gets together for the pre-season training.
Porto’s president has come out to deny having received any bids for their star playmaker Joao Moutinho and has called recent reports a figment of imagination.
The 25 year old who joined Porto in the summer of 2010 has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League with Manchester United and Tottenham both interested in the midfielder. Former Porto boss Andre Villas Boas who has recently been appointed manager of Spurs, is looking to reunite with Moutinho with the departure of Luka Modric very likely.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been following the young midfielder for a couple of years and after seemingly giving up on Modric has turned his attention to him. Moutinho shone for his national team at the Euros and showed why he is considered as a top prospect in Europe.
Porto aren’t keen on losing him and it would take a considerably high amount to prize him away from Estadio do dragao.
‘A bid for Moutinho? It’s an invention of the newspapers to sell more copies,’ president Pinto da Costa said.
Modric who is inching closer to a move to Real Madrid needs to be replaced at White Hart Lane and the money they make from the deal would be good enough to land Moutinho in England.
Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has underlined his desire to continue playing for them after being linked with a move away from Merseyside in recent weeks.
The 27 year old won his first silverware at the club lasts season since moving from Zenit in 2008 when Liverpool defeated Cardiff on penalties to lift the Carling Cup. Premier League champions Manchester City are in the lookout for a new defender and are believed to be keen on Skrtel but the player has come out to reject any advances.
The player’s agent had recently expressed his concern for Liverpool’s current state of affairs yet reassured his commitment towards the club. New manager Brendan Rodgers considers the player as a key figure in the coming season and wants to tie him down to a long term contract.
I will be leaving for Liverpool on July 6. I am very excited about new season,’ Skrtel told his personal website.
‘I hope we will be ready and this time it will be much better than in the last one.
‘There is also speculation about my exit from Liverpool but I can say that there was no offer on the table yet and we didn’t hold talks with any club.’
Liverpool have been linked to a host of players this summer but are yet to make any signing yet.
