Liverpool Eye Arsenal Target As First Season Transfer

New Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is mulling over a move for French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in the wake of Pepe Reina’s imminent departure to AC Milan this summer.

Reina moved to Anfield back in 2005 and has since been one of the pillars of the Liverpool side which failed to qualify for European competitions next season. The Spanish goalkeeper has repeatedly pledged his future to Liverpool but the chance of playing in the Champions League in a Milan shirt might be difficult to turn down.

The Rossoneri coach Massimo Allegri is intending to get themselves a new goalkeeper as he tries to replace the ageing Christian Abbiati. This has opened the door for Hugo Lloris to move to the Premier League and join Liverpool. The 25 year old had earlier expressed his desire to play in England and could be tempted at the prospect of joining the Merseyside club. Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger is also a keen admirer of the Lyon custodian and it could well be an uphill task for Liverpool to sign the highly rated player if the Gunners show interest in him.

Arshavin To Stay At Arsenal?

Andrei Arshavin’s proposed move to Zenit St. Petersburg this summer could be in jeopardy following the midfielder’s outburst against the Russian fans after their surprise exit from the Euros.

The 31 year old moved to Arsenal in the summer of 2008 but has since failed to live up to the expectations of the fans. The Russian has consistently struggled to adapt to the more physical English game and Arsene Wenger has chosen to offload him this summer as he attempts to reshuffle the squad. Arshavin spent the second half of the season at Zenit and although failed to impress during his brief stint, the club are keen to have him back.

But the recent outburst has forced Zenit to rethink their decision as Russians fans are demanding Arshavin be stripped of captaincy and forced to retire from national duties immediately. Arsenal, who are also interested in Alan Dzagoev, are asking for a fee in the region of £8m but the Russian club still remain undecided.

Arshavin has offers from other clubs as well and is believed to be weighing his options. There are reports that the little Russian could move to a club in Serie A.

Hulk Waits For Chelsea Move

Porto star Hulk has chosen to play down the chances of his expected departure from  the club following intense media attention over the last few weeks.

The Brazilian forward has refuted claims that he is trying to push through a deal and move to Chelsea this summer. The highly rated 25 year old has been strongly linked with a move away from the Estadio do Dragao this summer with Chelsea and PSG playing tug of war to land the player. But the club has rejected reports that a deal has been agreed already after the news of a possible agreement with the European champions Chelsea flooded the internet.

Hulk maintains that he is dedicated to Porto’s cause and would continue to give his best no matter where he ends up after August.

“I’m not obsessed to leave Porto,” he told Brazilian daily Globo Esporte. “I like the Portuguese fans a lot and I have always done the right thing regarding that club.

“Now if the negotiations advance and some European club reach an agreement with Porto, I’ll leave.

“But we still have time to discuss this. The transfer window only closes in August.”

Asked what club he will be at by the end of August, Hulk added: “I honestly don’t know about my future. I only know that other clubs besides those two (Chelsea and PSG) are interested in signing me.”

Chelsea Close To Land Piszczek?

Borussia Dortmund face a tough task holding on to their Polish full back as Chelsea set their sights on Lukasz Piszczek as Jose Bosingwa’s replacement.

New Blues manager Roberto Di Matteo has made the signing of a right back the topmost priority this summer after having acquired the services of Eden Hazard and Marko Marin. With Jose Bosingwa’s release and Branislav Ivanovic’s insistence on being employed more centrally next season, Chelsea are in desperate need of a right back. Paolo Ferreira is also likely to be shown the door and the Italian manager who led the Londoners to European triumph last season is looking at Piszczek as the best replacement.

Chelsea were reportedly keen on Ajax defender Gregory Van der Wiel but the high asking price for the 22 year old have seen the Blues cool off their interest. While the highly rated Dortmund defender won’t come for cheap,  the 27 year old at the peak of his form could provide the Bundesliga champions a good deal.

Chelsea have also been linked to French defender Mathieu Debuchy but it seems that the officials at the Stamford Bridge are zeroed in on the Dortmund star.

Chelsea Goalkeeper Decides Future

Spanish club Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will spend another season on loan after reaching an agreement with the Blues.

Courtois was sent on loan to Atletico last season and very soon established himself as the undisputed numero uno between the sticks. Following David De Gea’s departure to Manchester United last summer, the reigning Europa champions needed a goalkeeper and this 20 year old shot stopper proved to be a fine replacement.

Chelsea would persist with the likes of Ross Turnbull and Henrique Hilario as the backups for Petr Cech. The club wants young Courtois, who joined them from Racing Genk in the beginning of last season, to continue his growth at the Vicente Calderon.

‘Thibaut Courtois will next season play at Atletico Madrid after Atletico on Wednesday reached an agreement with Chelsea on transfer for a year,’ a statement on Atletico’s official website read.

‘The Belgian international goalkeeper played all of last season on loan playing in in 37 games in La Liga and 15 in the UEFA Europa League – a competition won in Bucharest on May 9.’
