Cavani Close To Premiership Move?

Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani is one of the hottest properties in the transfer market this summer as Premier league champions Manchester City and European champions Chelsea will have to compete with Serie A champions Juventus for the prolific striker’s signature.

The 25 year old has had a terrific season at Napoli and have drawn the interest of top clubs all over Europe. Manchester City have been dormant in the transfer market so far as but it could soon change as the newly crowned England champions are looking to sign Cavani as the departures of Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez are anticipated. Chelsea meanwhile, have splurged close to £40m already and are still looking for a possible replacement for their talismanic striker Didier Drogba. With the deal involving Hulk hanging in the balance, the Londoners are considering all possible alternatives as Porto have apparently put them off with their astonishing asking price.

Juventus coach Anotnio Conte is also keen on adding a quality striker to the squad and are ready to invest this summer to compete for the Champions league crown next season. The Turin club has already been linked to Robin Van Persie and Carlos Tevez but it is learned that there are serious questions marks over the availability of the two mentioned. The most successful club in Italian football has hence turned their attention to the Uruguayan who has had two great seasons at Napoli back to back.

It is highly unlikely that Napoli would sell their star striker this summer with Ezequiel Lavezzi’s move to PSG almost certain. But with the three clubs in picture all willing to sheell out anything in excess of £25m , the talented South American would be difficult to hold on to for the Azurris.

United Confirm Powell Signing

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of teenage sensation Nick Powell from Crewe Alexandra although the amount is yet to be known.

The 18 year old has been drawing serious interest from plenty of clubs in Premier league including Arsenal and Chelsea but the Reds have finally managed to seal the deal for someone who is touted as an exceptional talent. The League Two side wanted to have Nick for a year further on loan but it seems Sir Alex Ferguson is keen on continuing the young star’s footballing education at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson told “We have scouted Nick for months now. He is an exceptional talent and has been schooled well at Crewe.

“I’m delighted he has chosen to come to United. He has a lot to offer and we are all looking forward to working with him.”

Nick Powell posed happily with United Chief Executive David Gill and seemed elated to move to United. “It really is a dream come true to be signing for Manchester United. I have had a great time at Crewe and I would like to thank them for helping me to develop as a player over the past 13 years,” Powell said.

“I’m excited about continuing my development with Sir Alex and the world-class players in the squad. The thought of making the step up to the Premier League next season is an exciting prospect. I can’t wait to get started.”

Powell is United’s third signing of the season after Shinji Kagawa and Angelo Henriquez joined the Devils earlier this summer.

Lewandowski’s Move To Arsenal Or United Snubbed

Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has slammed the Polish media and cleared the air over Lewandowski’s supposed move to Manchester United claiming the news are baseless.

It was widely reported in the Polish media last week after their 1-1 draw against Greece that Robert Lewandowski is set to move to Old Trafford this summer. “Lewy is going to Manchester United, Kuba (Jakub Blaszczykowski ) also somewhere in England, and Piszczek to Real,” the Poland coach Franciszek Smuda was quoted as saying to the Polish media in pre match conference.

This news added further fuel to the uncertainty looming over the Dortmund striker’s future but the club has now come out and quashed them.

“It does not matter if we are to receive bids.

“I have said for weeks that Robert will be back in training with our club after the Euro 2012 and his holiday leave. And this is what will happen,” the club chief executive said.

Blasting the Polish media for reporting false news and creating unnecessary alarm among the Dortmund fans, Watzke added, “I am sick of these speculations. I really don’t care what the rumours are in the media of Poland.

“I have a detailed knowledge of media in Poland and therefore I know how I have to classify those reports”.

However, the chief executive of the Bundesliga champions refused to pin the blame on Smuda for the event. He is confident that the Polish coach’s comments were distorted by the media and taken out of context.

“I am going way back with Smuda for years. We have a good relationship. I do not think he has said things like that,” he added.

Montpellier Boss Reveals Giroud Eagerness On Arsenal Move

According to Montpellier manager Rene Girard, French striker Olivier Giroud is trying his best to push through a move to London club Arsenal this summer.

Speaking to the French radio Girard said, “Arsenal are very interested and Giroud wants to play in England.

“If Arsene [Wenger] agrees with the president [Louis Nicollin], he will sign for them.”

The Gunners boss is currently covering the Euros for French TV and will have a closer look at the player during the event. The deal which is set to cost the Londoners a sum of around £12m will also see Marouane Chamakh going the other way to the Ligue 1 champions.

Arsenal have already signed Lukas Podolski from FC Cologne and are deliberating over a move for Yann M’Vila which might happen once the player returns from the Euros. But as initially suspected, Giroud is not going to be Robin Van Persie’s replacement at the Emirates. Reports emanating from North London reveal that Wenger is still confident of persuading Van Persie to stay on and sign a new contract after he returns. The Professor, as he is famously known for his footballing acumen, is hoping to wrap up the deal involving Giroud as early as possible to convince the Dutch striker of the club’s intentions to compete for all silverware in the coming season.

Van Persie has one year left on his current contract and is wanted by Manchester City and Juventus among other clubs. Juventus are serious about landing him and are willing to shell out £25m for the Gunner captain and offer him a weekly wage of £180k.

Hulk agent alerts Chelsea

FC Porto striker Hulk could stay put after his club offered him a new offer according to the player’s agent Teodera Fonseca.

Hulk’s impending move to London club Chelsea needs to be wrapped up if they are serious about landing him this summer Fonseca revealed.  Roman Abramovich has already spent close £40m on two players; Eden Hazard from Lille and Marko Marin from Werder Bremen and it is still unclear as to what is delaying Chelsea from sealing the deal for the Brazilian. With Didier Drogba’s departure this summer, Chelsea are keen to replace him with Hulk who has been in spectacular goal scoring form for the Portuguese club over the last couple of seasons.

His agent has put the European champions on alert and has urged them to speed through the deal. The Brazilian has a release clause of £80m but it is believed that Porto would be willing to listen to offers over £38m and Chelsea owner is believed to be ready to splurge the cash to bring Hulk to Stamford Bridge.

Fonseca said: “The offer from Chelsea is not the only big one we have in Europe and they know that. At this moment everything depends on Porto.

“I am in constant contact with the Porto president and there are no changes. The club wants him to stay there and they have made him a new offer to stay.

“Hulk is happy at Porto and if he has to stay there it will not be a problem. He has been chased by big clubs in Europe for the last three years and he is still there.”
