Wayne Rooney has shared an emotional tribute to his friend and boxing legend Ricky Hatton following the tragic news of his death at just 46 years old.

Hatton, a former world champion boxer, was found dead at his Manchester home on September 14.

While the cause of death has not been revealed, police have confirmed that it is not being treated as suspicious.

Rooney, 39, had a close friendship with Hatton, having famously carried his belts into the ring ahead of Hatton’s victory over Jose Luis Castillo in Las Vegas in 2007. Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, he reflected on the devastating loss.

“Ricky was such a good lad and a good person,” said Rooney. “He captured the nation’s heart. The support he had was incredible, and people followed him everywhere.”

Rooney also expressed his condolences to Hatton’s family and friends, saying: “I want to pay my condolences to his family and everyone who was really close to him. It’s way too soon.”

The former Manchester United and England striker shared that he received the news of Hatton’s death shortly after playing in a legends exhibition match for Manchester United in South Korea.

“It hasn’t fully kicked in yet,” Rooney added. “It’s devastating. Heartbreaking.”

Rooney wasn’t the only footballer to pay tribute to Hatton, who during his glittering career in the ring held world titles in two weight classes – light-welterweight and welterweight.

Jack Grealish, sharing his condolences on Instagram, described the boxing legend as a “true legend” and “absolute diamond” every time they met.

“Such sad news man,” Grealish wrote. “My thoughts go out to his family and friends. RIP Hitman.”

Roy Keane, Micah Richards, and countless others from the football world also expressed their sorrow, as did Tyson Fury from the boxing community. The heavyweight champion shared his grief on Instagram, saying, “Rip to the legend @rickyhatton may he rip. There will only ever be 1 Ricky Hatton. Can’t believe this, so young.”

Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori has revealed an unexpected footballing idol – and it’s not who many would have guessed.

In a recent exclusive interview with VERSUS, the Italy international spoke candidly about everything from his role as an ambassador for adidas’ underwear line, to who he thinks has the best hair at Arsenal (Noni Madueke, for the record).

But it was his footballing idol that really caught attention.

While most would assume he looked up to legendary Italian defenders like Paolo Maldini or Alessandro Nesta, Calafiori revealed his inspiration came from a more surprising source: Aleksandar Kolarov, the former Manchester City and AS Roma full-back.

“When I was younger at Roma, I was lucky to train with the first team,” Calafiori explained. “I got to learn directly from Aleksandar Kolarov, who played my position. He was someone I could watch every day – his technique, his mentality – and he gave me advice and small details I still keep with me today.”

Although Kolarov was his main influence, Calafiori did mention the classic icons of Italian defending. “Of course, defenders like Maldini, Nesta, Chiellini… those players are icons for me,” he added.

Elsewhere in the interview, the 23-year-old spoke about life at Arsenal since his £42m summer move from Bologna last summer.

“It’s special,” he said. “Everyone’s a good guy, we’re friends, and I feel really comfortable here. Last season wasn’t easy, but I came back this summer with a fire inside me. I couldn’t wait to start again. Playing in the Premier League is the dream for so many players, so now I just want to enjoy it and show what I can do consistently.”

Kolarov was a pillar of consistency at Manchester City, helping the club win two Premier League titles. Now, Calafiori will undoubtedly be hoping to replicate his idol’s success at Arsenal.

Inter and Nike have dropped their new third kit for the 2025/26 season – a Total 90-inspired design that revives one of Nike’s most iconic templates from the 2000s.

The shirt keeps the trademark T90 aesthetic, complete with the centralised crest and framed chest panel, but this time it arrives in a colourway never before seen at San Siro: a bold Thunder Grey base cut through with striking Safety Orange trims.

Jack Grealish turned 30 on September 10 – and true to form, he celebrated in unforgettable style.

The on-loan Everton star threw his very own secret festival the weekend before his birthday, aptly named “Grealfields” – a playful twist on the iconic Creamfields music festival.

Photos from the event revealed a full festival-style set-up: a giant tent housing a sprawling DJ booth, stacks of speakers, flashy lighting rigs, and even a private circular bar. Guests were handed custom VIP passes stamped with “Grealfields – Jack’s 30th Birthday,” giving the party a genuine big-weekend vibe.

The guest list was just as eye-catching.

Alongside his long-time girlfriend Sasha Attwood were famous faces including Coronation Street’s Andy Whyment (better known as Kirk Sutherland) and former England striker Wayne Rooney. Grealish himself was pictured blowing out candles on a towering cake in front of friends and family.
