Tottenham Hotspur Stadium: All You Need to Know About Spurs’ New Home

?Well, it finally happened. It may have been almost seven months later than scheduled, but Tottenham Hotspur finally moved to their new self-titled stadium. Hallelujah! And, despite the wait, it seems the arena is wondrous enough for all those timeline misgivings to be forgiven and forgotten in one fell swoop.

So, how and why did that happen?

Tottenham Hotspur v Southampton - U18 Premier League

Well, where to start. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is jam-packed with joyous features, from the revolutionary to the retro. Let’s start with the most mundane of statistics: capacity. It has a whopping 62,062 seats, making it the seventh biggest in the United Kingdom, and the second largest in the ?Premier League, behind Old Trafford.

Most pleasingly of all, for those in white, will be the 1802 more spots more than the nearby Emirates, which has 60,260 – making Spurs’ numerically similar total a clear example of excellent pettiness. And that number is almost matched in square metres by the stadium’s screens – the largest of any ground in Europe – which stretch out to a dazzling 325 sqm, alongside 1,800 of their little high definition television siblings dotted around the interior.

If you’re a VIP kind of guy or gal, then rest assured there are 8,000 premium seats at your disposal, ready and waiting to be plastered across your Instagram story, which you can upload using the stadium’s installed WiFi (connection permitting).

But, here’s where the adherence to the old White Hart Lane – the retro, if you will – comes in: no front-row seat is more than 8m from the pitch. Oh and the pitch, how could we forgot the pitch(es)! There’s two! One retractable one with proper grass on it for proper football and another, right below it, with artificial grass for artificial football (NFL games as well as concerts, events etc).

That’s a world first!

And, that one-stand White Wall that you’ve heard about? That contains 17,500 of the 62k or so, and peaks at just over 34m high.

But enough about the metrics of the grass and the concrete. You just want to hear about the beer, don’t you? Well, those jaw-dropping inverted dispensers can be found at some of the 65 food and drink outlets peppered around the stadium, and at a highly reasonable £4 a pop.

Also, as a fan, you’re not confined to your overflowing area of temporary residence. Unlike many English grounds, and more akin to the NFL/Cricket way of doing things, you are allowed to mill around the various backchannels as you please.

Some things you won’t find? Plastic straws and cash machines, thanks to the cashless policy of all the various outlets. There are plenty of recycling bins, though.

So, with all that and more to look forward to, the football might come as a secondary draw, but just in case you are interested in what fixtures you’ll be able to see from now until the end of the season, here they are: Crystal Palace (April 4th), Manchester City (?Champions League, April 9th), Huddersfield (April 13th), Brighton (April 23rd), West Ham (April 27th) and Everton (May 12th).

Any drawbacks, you ask? Well, it seems harsh, but there is no room explicitly dedicated to the delights of hardened dairy products. That’s a real shame.

Transfer Rumours: Umtiti to Man Utd, De Ligt to Barcelona, Dzeko to West Ham & More

?If you are one of those heedless people who think that just because it’s the international break and the actual football that you care about is on a seemingly interminable hiatus that the rumour mills stop milling, then heed this: YOU’RE WRONG.

The rumour mills never stop milling. The transfer links never sleep, however spurious. Here’s your latest batch:

Atletico Madrid Offer €20m Plus Vietto to Resolve Gelson Martins Saga

Luciano Vietto,Mathias Zanka Jorgensen

?Atletico Madrid are looking to resolve their ongoing dispute with Sporting CP over the transfer of Gelson Martins by offering the club €20m plus Fulham loanee Luciano Vietto.

Atleti signed Martins for free in July 2018 after the winger cancelled his contract with the Portuguese side following a fan-led attack on their training ground, but the club refused to accept the situation, maintaining they should’ve received the full €105.1m release clause fee.

However, according to Portuguese newspaper Record, as relayed by ?SAPO Desporto, the two parties have now reached an agreement whereby Atleti hand over slightly less than a fifth of that sum, alongside the Fulham flop. To be fair, they may also be in line for another €20m when Los Rojiblancos sell Martins to Monaco (where he is currently on loan) this summer for a cool €40m. Much ado about nothing, then, really.

Barca Willing to Offload Umtiti to Man Utd in Bid to Land Matthijs de Ligt

FBL-ESP-LIGA-VALLADOLID-BARCELONA

?Barcelona are willing to sell World Cup-winning centre back Samuel Umtiti to Manchester United in order to push through their move for Ajax teenager Matthijs de Ligt.

According to the ?Daily Mail, Barca are looking to offset the required €85m to sign the Dutchman by selling Umtiti to United, with the Frenchman now below compatriot Clement Lenglet in the pecking order following his issues with injury, even if the ousting of such a key player last season could cause discord in La Blaugrana’s dressing room.

As for De Ligt himself, in an interview with Esporte Interativo, as quoted by ?Marca, he was deliberately coy on his immediate future, proclaiming: “I play my game, focus on football and we’ll see where I end up. It is not something that worries me.

“I am currently playing for Ajax and the national team, so that is what I’m focussing on. I’m gaining experience and I like it.”

Bayern & Inter ‘Lukewarm’ on Mateo Kovacic Deal

Raheem Sterling,Mateo Kovacic

Spare a thought for Mateo Kovacic. Because clubs seem to tossing him around in a game of “lukewarm” potato right now. With Chelsea’s upcoming transfer ban, the Croatian’s prospective €29m permanent switch from Real Madrid is now off.

However, as reported by ?FcIN, Zinedine Zidane is not keen on keeping him at the Santiago Bernabeu and, after his representatives shopped him around to ?Bayern Munich and former side Inter, a similarly “lukewarm” response was found, with seemingly no one willing to leave themselves open to the opportunity of getting burned by the midfielder… even if he’s blatantly not a hot commodity.

West Ham Looking to Beat Out Inter & Everton With Eden Dzeko Capture

Edin Dzeko

?West Ham United are stepping up their pursuit of veteran AS Roma striker Edin Dzeko, reportedly submitting an offer ‘in recent days’.

As reported by Il Messaggero, and relayed by ?Sport Witness with additional information from Gazzetta dello Sport, the Hammers are ardent admirers of the 33-year-old, especially former boss Manuel Pellegrini, and are desperate to bring the Bosnian back to England this summer.

However, AS Roma are reportedly looking for as much as €30m for the frontman, while the player himself is holding out for a possible switch to Inter if Mauro Icardi jumps ship. Everton are also looking to get in and amongst it, so expect this one to run…possibly a bit more than Dzeko can these days.

Tottenham See Torino’s Soualiho Meite as Ideal Moussa Dembele Replacement?

Soualiho Meite

??Tottenham are looking at Torino’s revelatory midfielder Soualiho Meite as a potential replacement for Moussa Dembele in north London.

The Turin side brought in Meite for a cool £9m just last summer, but the Frenchman has quickly established himself as one of the club’s foremost players, and would now command a fee in the region of €30m.

And that’s the package that Spurs and West Ham are readying ahead of this summer’s transfer window, according to the print edition of Gazzetto dello Sport, via ?Sport Witness.

Former Liverpool Youngster Reveals Hilarious Roy Hodgson Transfer Mix-Up Which Saw Him Join Fulham

?Former Liverpool youngster Alexander Kacanicklic has revealed the circumstances surrounding his move to Fulham in 2010, claiming it was due to a comedic error from former boss Roy Hodgson.

During Hodgson’s time at Anfield, he agreed a deal to sign Paul Konchesky from the Cottagers, which saw Kacanicklic and teammate Lauri Dalla Valle move to Craven Cottage as part of the deal.

Alexander Kacaniklic,Craig Eastmond

However, speaking to podcast ?Lundh, Kacanicklic revealed Hodgson had wanted to sell a different ‘Alex’ and mistakenly offered the Swede as part of the deal.

He said: “It was a bit difficult for ?Liverpool to replace me. When I was in ?Fulham and before I signed up, I had a conversation with Roy Hodgson on the phone, where we found out that he had changed the wrong Alex.

“In his head, he thought he changed another Alex for Konchesky. But then it was too late. It’s a little funny.

Liverpool's English defender Paul Konche

“Then he just told me I was welcome back in Liverpool with open arms, but that I should do what I felt. I did not [go back]. Then I had already changed my mind and was very excited about coming to Fulham.”

There is no mention of which ‘Alex’ Hodgson had actually intended to part ways with, or how such a gaffe was even possible, but it certainly makes for a fantastic tale.

Kacaniklic moved to Liverpool as a youngster in the summer of 2007 and spent several years as part of the academy. He never made an appearance for the senior team, but the highlight of his tenure at the club came in the 2008/09 FA Youth Cup final, in which the Swede netted an impressive goal as the young Reds fell to defeat against ?Arsenal‘s Under-18 side.

Alexander Kacaniklic,Christophe Berra

After moving to Fulham, Kacaniklic spent time on loan with both ?Watford and ?Burnley, before going on to make 100 appearances for the Cottagers.

Now 27, the winger currently turns out for Swedish side Hammarby, having joined on a free transfer from Nantes in February.

Rangers Assistant Manager Gary McAllister Physically Assaulted Outside Leeds Bar

Ranger assistant manager Gary McAllister was attacked outside a bar in Leeds early on Saturday morning, according to reports.

The former Scottish international is said to have been out for a meal in the city centre with his wife when they were attacked while waiting for a taxi.

Gary McAllister

According to ?The Sun, the attack took place at 04:00 GMT on Saturday. McAllister was punched in the face and required hospital treatment, but is now said to be recovering at home.

A source told has told The sun that the incident left the former ?Liverpool and ?Leeds midfielder ‘shaken up’ and requiring stitches in his top lip.

Gary McAllister

“Gary was in hospital from about 3am to 12 noon. His face is a mess. He must have at least 10-12 stitches in his top lip,” the source said. “It was totally unprovoked by just one bloke. He came from nowhere and just hit him – simply because Gary is a a former footballer.

“It’s crazy. We’re seeing supporters run onto pitches and attacking players, now we’ve got legends like Gary being set upon in a city centre. It beggars belief. Gary’s pretty shaken up by it all.”

Det Insp James Entwistle, of Leeds District CID, has also commented in the incident, saying (via ?BBC News): “The initial report was that a man, aged in his 50s, was stood outside a bar when a man approached him and punched him in the face causing injuries that required hospital treatment.

“We are currently arranging to speak to the victim to take fuller details of the incident and will be progressing the investigation to identify the person responsible.”

Steven Gerrard

McAllister has refused to comment on the incident, telling The Sun that “It’s in the hands of the police.”

Real Madrid Transfers: Every Player Linked With Los Blancos & How Much It’ll Cost to Sign Them All

Real Madrid are set for a squad overhaul in the summer, and since Zinedine Zidane returned to the club just over a fortnight ago, they have been linked with a minimum £40m move for every person who has ever even looked at a football.

To mark the occasion, then, we’ve thrown together a list of all of the players who have been linked over the last 15 days. Spoiler: there’s a lot of them.

Eder Militao

FBL-POR-LIGA-AVES-PORTO

Club: Porto

Cost: £43m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far: £43m

Only right to start with the one player that ?have actually signed so far, since there actually is one.

Eder Militao has joined Real on a deal until 2025, for a fee of around £43m.

Fair play lads, good deal for a promising player.

David De Gea

David De Gea

Club: Manchester United

Estimated Cost: £75m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £118m

Since returning to the Bernabeu, Zidane is reported to have been unimpressed with current stopper Thibaut Courtois, so it’s only natural ?links with De Gea – arguably the world’s best keeper at the moment – would materialise again.

Manchester United are keen to tie him down to a new contract as his current deal enters its final year, but if that doesn’t happen, then it seems feasible that ?Real could swoop.

You get the impression there might just be too many moving parts for this one to come off, however; Courtois would first need to be offloaded, United would have to agree to a fee, and De Gea would need to fancy it himself.

Nicolas Tagliafico

FBL-EUR-C1-AJAX-REALMADRID

Club: Ajax

Estimated Cost: £30m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £148m

Born from Marcelo’s heavily reported reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus, strong rumours have emerged linking ?Real with a move for Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico, after the Argentine played a part in knocking them out of the Champions League.

He’s made 21 Eredivisie appearances, as well as being a regular in Europe, so if they do find themselves needing a left-back, then there are few better or more realistic options on the market.

Milan Skriniar

Sebastien Haller,Milan Skriniar

Club: Inter

Estimated Cost: £85m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £233m

Since signing for Inter in 2017, Skriniar has burst onto the scene and established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the world. As ever, it seems that ?has caught Real’s attention.

It’s unclear how much there is to speculation surrounding Raphael Varane’s future, but if he does depart, then Skriniar seems like a more than fitting heir – but they would almost certainly have to break the transfer record for a defender to land him.

Yes, he might cost even more than Virgil van Dijk did.

Kalidou Koulibaly

FBL-ITA-SERIEA-PARMA-NAPOLI

Club: Napoli

Estimated Cost: £90m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £323m

Linked strongly with Manchester United, Real Madrid are also reported to be ?in the hunt to sign Napoli’s excellent Kalidou Koulibaly, who is one of the best centre backs likely to be available to sign this summer.

Problem is, he’s going to cost MONEY. More than Skriniar, probably.

It’s been a bit quiet on this front of late, but it’s fun to accumulate all this, so we’ll chalk it up.

N’Golo Kante

Ngolo Kante,Bernard

Club: Chelsea

Estimated Cost: £80m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £403m

?

Regardless of Chelsea’s poor recent form under Maurizio Sarri, there are few better midfielders in the world than N’Golo Kante.

A World Cup winner in the summer, his ability to tirelessly cover the entire pitch week after week has made him an indispensable asset to the Stamford Bridge side since his move from Leicester.

He’s been one of the names ?most commonly linked with Real since the return of his countryman in the hot seat, but with the Blues facing a two-window transfer ban, the last thing they’ll want to do is let one of their key men go. That said, if Real do want him, they are not likely to be deterred.

Kante has hinted he doesn’t fancy it mind, because he is a nice guy.

Miralem Pjanic

Miralem Pjanic

Club: Juventus

Estimated Cost: £70m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £473m

One of the more ambitious names on the list, Pjanic has been linked as a direct replacement for Toni Kroos, who many speculate could be heading to Manchester United or Bayern Munich as part of a squad facelift.

The claim is that Zidane is ?very keen on the Bosnian, and sees him as a centre piece of the squad in the years to come.

Whether or not it happens might just depend on how Juventus fare in this year’s Champions League, as they prepare for a quarter-final against Real’s conquerors Ajax.

Felipe Anderson

Felipe Anderson,Ryan Babel

Club: West Ham

Estimated Cost: £50m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £523m

Really? ?Yes, it was a rumour.

Since arriving at the Irons for a club record £34m in the summer, Anderson has recovered from a slow start to establish himself as one of Manuel Pellegrini’s key players over the course of the season.

His impressive form has earned his way onto many a ‘Real Madrid transfer shortlist’ in the press, with the view being he could serve as a budget alternative to Eden Hazard, should that one fall through.

Paul Pogba

FBL-EURO-2020-QUALIFIER-MDA-FRA

Club: Manchester United

Cost: £250m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £773m

Pogba has had a season of chequered form, but since the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in December, he has reclaimed his title of One of the Best Midfielders in the World, with his contributions reflecting the hefty transfer fee United paid to bring him back from Juventus in 2015.

Rumours linking him to Real have been weak at best, stemming from a throwaway comment about Real being a ‘?dream for anyone’, and if they did want to land him, then there’s no telling what sort of ridiculous fee United would ask for given they have absolutely no obligation to sell in the foreseeable future. We’ve just tried to guess, as that’s all everyone else seems to be doing..

Still, Florentino Perez can be a bit nuts when it comes to signings sometimes – who knows?

Adrien Rabiot

Red Star Belgrade v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League Group C

?Club: PSG

Estimated Cost: Free

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £773m

Free? FREE?!

Unless we see something absolutely remarkable, Adrien Rabiot will leave PSG on a free this summer. He hasn’t featured since December due to an ongoing dispute surrounding his contract, which expires in the summer, and has been linked with a multitude of major clubs.

One such reportedly interested party is…?you guessed it, Real Madrid. They’ll need to move quickly if they want him, but they are Real Madrid after all.

Weird that there’s no transfer fee involved…

Christian Eriksen

FBL-ENG-PR-TOTTENHAM-ARSENAL

?Club: Tottenham Hotspur

Estimated Cost: £65m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £838m

Eriksen has frequently been linked with Real Madrid over the last year or so, and we were just looking like we’d seen the back of the tenacious rumour, when they went and re-appointed Zidane and brought it back to the surface.

Spurs haven’t messed about, though. Rumour has it they’re demanding a ?world record £200m for the Dane’s services, so it doesn’t look as if they’ll be too easy to negotiate with.

More realistically though, given the Dane has a year left on his contract, he is gettable – and Spurs would probably cave at the £65m mark.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Sergej Milinkovic Savic,Joaquin Correa

Club: Lazio

Estimated Cost: £92m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £930m

Milinkovic-Savic has developed a reputation over the last two seasons as one of the most imposing, dynamic midfielders on the planet, and ?fleeting rumours have emerged linking him with the Zidane revolution among a host of other places.

He wouldn’t come cheap, but is expected to leave in the summer, and at just 24, could prove to be a long-term staple of their midfield.

They’re up to seven new midfielders now. Lovely.

Sadio Mane

Calum Chambers,Sadio Mane

Club: Liverpool

Estimated Cost: £100m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £1.03bn

Mane is reported to have been ‘monitored’ by Zinedine in recent weeks – and if that’s the case, then he will have been very impressed. On current form, with 20 goals in 38 games, he is one of the most effective attackers in the world.

Now Real’s ‘?primary target’, it seems the Reds have a fight on their hands to keep hold of the Senegalese enigma.

Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard

Club: Chelsea

Estimated Cost: £100m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £1.13bn

Here it is. The box office attraction. If we get nothing else from the summer transfer window, then please let us get confirmation of this one getting over the line so we can finally, mercifully, put it behind us.

Hazard has been linked with Real since before Zidane left in the first place last summer, and now with him returning, it only seems more likely to happen given that he’s entering the last year of his contract. ?Chelsea’s selling position is weakened, to say the least.

Similar to Kante, Chelsea won’t be keen to sell, but if he wants to go and the offer is there then their hands are likely to be tied.

Kylian Mbappe

FBL-FRA-LIGUE1-PSG-OM

?Club: PSG

Estimated Cost: £240m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £1.37bn

Of all the many (many) rumours that have arisen surrounding Real in the last couple of weeks, it’s the signing of Mbappe, more than any other, that has fans excited.

Reports of a move have gone into overdrive over the last couple of days, and while it would likely require a world record bid to convince PSG to part with the man they paid close to £100m for to sign from Monaco, he is already one of the best players in the world at just 20, having scored 31 goals in 35 appearances in Paris.

?Even Marca has ruled this one out mind – because 280m is probably too much.

Joao Felix

FBL-POR-LIGA-BENFICA-CHAVES

?Club: SL Benfica

Estimated Cost: £75m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £1.445bn

Since bursting onto the scene with Benfica at the start of the season, 19-year-old Felix has reportedly ?been chased by Real among a number of other major European sides, with his ten goals in 18 Primeira Liga appearances earning him a reputation as ‘the next Ronaldo’ among other bits of flattery.

Given the unrivalled budget and esteem they possess in the footballing circles, Real are better placed than any of their rivals to land Portugal’s latest wonderkid, should they choose to do so.

Raheem Sterling

FBL-EUR-C1-MAN CITY-SCHALKE

?Club: Manchester City

Estimated Cost: £185m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £1.63bn

City’s Raheem Sterling, who has blossomed into one of the world’s best under the management of Pep Guardiola, is another who has been tipped as Real’s ?’main’ transfer target at one point or another in Zidane’s second spell.

19 goals in 40 appearances so far attest to the idea that he would certainly be a good signing, but with the financial backing and ambition City have, prying him away will be no small task – even for galactic powerhouses such as Real.

Mauro Icardi

Mauro Icardi

?Club: Inter

Estimated Cost: £70m

Accumulated Transfer Cost So Far Because They Will Sign Everyone: £1.7bn

Rounding off our exhaustive, exhausting? list of Real’s rumoured targets is Inter renegade Mauro Icardi, who is set to depart San Siro after a spectacular fall-out with his current suitors.

Despite firing 15 goals in 28 appearances this season, he was stripped of the captaincy last month, and hasn’t appeared since the win over Parma on February 2nd. Real are thought to be ?leading the chase to bring him in and revive his career, so we’ll see how that one goes.

So, of course there’s absolutely no chance that Real Madrid will sign every single player on this list (we’ve probably missed a few too) for upwards of £1.7bn – we’ve simply accumulated the figures being bandied around for each player they’ve been linked with in an attempt to show how ridiculous it is.

Here’s their potential new team in snazzy lineup form.

They will do business, and they might even get some of the above. But see this as a warning – this is going to be a crazy summer.

Let’
