Schar: Juventus interest is flattering

The Switzerland international is out of contract at the end of the current campaign and has confessed that he would jump at the chance to join the Italian champions

Basel defender Fabian Schar says that he flattered by Juventus’ reported interest in his services and admitted that he could leave St. Jakob Park in January.

The Switzerland international is out of contract at the end of the season and is being heavily linked with a move to Serie A.

Schar has previously confessed that he would welcome the opportunity to ply his trade in Italy and he has now expressed a preference for a transfer to Turin.

“It’s really gratifying to know that a big club like Juventus have thought about me for their defence,” the 22-year-old centre-half told Calciomercato.it.

“Serie A is certainly a very important league in which there are strong squads against which anyone would like to measure themselves.”

When asked if he could leave Basel for an Italian club during the January transfer window, Schar replied: “I’m not ruling anything out. In football, as in life, anything is possible.

“I’m happy at Basel at the moment and really concentrated on doing well with my team. In January, we’ll see what happens.”

Schar, who represented his country at Brazil 2014, has also previously been linked with AC Milan and Inter, as well as English outfit Arsenal.
