Ferdinand and Barton among six released by QPR

Shaun Wright-Phillips, Bobby Zamora and Richard Dunne will also leave Loftus Road though Clint Hill and Alejandro Faurlin have been offered new deals

Rio Ferdinand and Joey Barton have been named among six players to be released by QPR following their relegation from the Premier League.

The duo join Shaun Wright-Phillips, Bobby Zamora, Richard Dunne and Brian Murphy in leaving Loftus Road at the end of their contracts.

Karl Henry could also depart, though he has until June 30 to decide whether to exercise his option of a further 12 months at the club.

Having signed from Manchester United, Ferdinand made just 11 league appearances for the Rs, though the death of his wife Rebecca in early May meant his availability was limited towards the end of the campaign.

Barton, meanwhile, leaves the club after four years with the London outfit while Zamora, who scored the play-off winning goal against Derby County that secured promotion to the Premier League in 2014, leaves having scored three league goals in 31 appearances this season.

Clint Hill and Alejandro Faurlin have been offered new deals by the club as they look to rebuild following Chris Ramsey’s installation as permanent manager.

Casillas: De Gea is ready for Real Madrid

The goalkeeper says he will stay at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, and insists he would welcome the challenge provided by his Manchester United counterpart

Iker Casillas believes Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is ready to move to Real Madrid this summer.

Casillas has been heavily criticised by a section of the Madrid fans over the past couple of years and had been tipped to leave the club in the upcoming transfer window.

But he insists he will be staying put and that he would welcome the competition from De Gea, who is yet to sign an extension at Old Trafford and has been the subject of serious interest from the Spanish side.

Asked if he would continue at Madrid if De Gea arrives, he told Cadena Ser: “Why not? I would survive. I’m delighted with the competition.

“There’s no clause in my contract which says I have to start, I have to compete and fight. I would like to finish my career here, to win titles.

“I think he can handle the pressure. No disrespect to Atletico Madrid, which is obviously a great club, but Manchester United are a bigger club, and I’m sure his time at United will have served as a wonderful experience.

“We have talked with the national team, we don’t have a very close relationship but we have always got on really well. If he comes, David seems to be a really nice boy.

“As a goalkeeper it’s clear, he has the future ahead of him. People are talking about David and others, if finally he comes he will be well received, we will help him, we will help each other in what we’re lacking and we will have to compete like we compete in the national team.”

Casillas also revealed that he has spoken with Madrid president Florentino Perez about goalkeepers at other clubs in the past.

“I don’t remember who but I spoke to him about the ones that I like,” he added. “It was a normal chat. I spoke to him about Sergio Asenjo, who’s injured but is a great lad, or Sergio Rico at Sevilla.”

Balotelli will definitely stay at Liverpool, says agent

The Italy international scored just four goals in his debut campaign at Anfield but his representative feels his performances will improve next term

Mario Balotelli will “definitely stay” at Liverpool next season, according to his agent Mino Raiola.

The Italy international has struggled during his first season with the Reds, scoring just four goals in all competitons as Brendan Rodgers’ side struggled for consistency.

But Raiola revealed his client held talks with the club and would not be leaving Merseyside this summer.

“No, he had talks with Liverpool and he will definitely stay,” he told Sky Sports when asked if the striker would depart Anfield.

Concerns were raised surrounding Balotelli’s off-field behaviour when he joined the club in August after a number of incidents during his time with Manchester City.

But Raiola believes that, despite the striker receiving a one-match suspension in December for a controversial Instagram post, the club are happy with his conduct when away from the pitch.

“The club were happy with him as a professional. Obviously he may have to improve the performances but I’m pretty confident that will happen next year.”

Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is a fan of Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal and has refused to rule out the possibility of signing the Chilean and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema in the summer.

The north Londoners were considering an ambitious summer swoop for Benzema and are convinced that the former Lyon star would be keen on a switch.

When asked about Arsenal’s interest in the France forward and Vidal, Wenger told reporters that his concentration remains solely on the upcoming FA Cup final, not on summer moves:

“I like Arturo Vidal. You can suspect that at the moment I’m not in a transfer mode.

“We’ll deal with transfers after the FA Cup final. It’s all suspicions, nobody knows if its true or not.”

The Frenchman was similarly quiet when quizzed about Arsenal’s interest in Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling on May 19, with the 20-year-old expected to tell Brendan Rodgers he wants to leave the club when the transfer window reopens.
